State Assessment
Welcome to Spring Independent School District’s State Assessment homepage. This page provides valuable information about student assessments offered statewide in Texas.
The Texas Assessment Program is a statewide testing program that includes the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®), STAAR Alternate 2, the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS), and TELPAS Alternate. The Texas Assessment Program is designed to measure the extent to which a student has learned and is able to apply the defined knowledge and skills at each tested grade or the extent to which a student has developed English language proficiency. These required assessments were created to fulfill both federal and state requirements.
Who is Tested?
All students enrolled in Texas public schools and open-enrollment charter schools in grades 3–8 and specific high school courses are required by both federal and state law to participate in STAAR.
TEA has developed the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Alternate 2 assessment to meet the federal requirements mandated under the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), a federal education law previously known as No Child Left Behind. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) designed the STAAR Alternate 2 to assess students in grades 3–8 and high school who have significant cognitive disabilities and are receiving special education services.
Also, the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) and TELPAS Alternate to assess the progress that emergent bilingual (EB) students make in learning the English language in grades K-12.
All statewide assessments are administered online in all tested grade levels and subjects except STAAR Alternate. Accessibility Policies may apply to any student taking State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) or Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS) depending on his or her needs and whether or not the student meets the eligibility criteria, if applicable. These policies are divided into three main categories Accessibility Features, Designated Supports, and Designated Supports requiring TEA approval.
